In 2018, the Somali Studies International Association will mark 40 years since its establishment. In order to celebrate that significant milestone, the 2018 Congress will recognize one of its most important contributors and a leading figure and one of the individuals whose efforts did most to catalyze the association’s inception: Professor Hussein Adam (Hussein Tanzani).
As Professor Lee Cassanelli emphasizes: ‘while many individuals and host-country organizers deserve credit for maintaining this SSIA tradition of lively, open, and nonpartisan debate, perhaps no one is more responsible for the Association’s success than Professor Hussein Adam, one of its “founding fathers” and its first president’.
Through their publishing arm of Redsea Cultural Foundation, Hargeysa Cultural Centre will be publishing an edited volume of selected multi-sector scholarly papers to honour Professor Hussein Adam’s remarkable work for Somali Studies.
